Our Pastor
Pastor Leon Hampton, Jr.
Pastor Leon Hampton, Jr., was raised in Choctaw County, Alabama, where he fell in love with church in his youth. From his early years, he had a passionate love for God and throughout his life has always found a way to serve God and his kingdom. From his collegiate days serving the ministry, to his service today on the Board of Directors for Legal Services of Alabama, Salvation Army, the Mercy House, Mentors of Montgomery, and as an ex officio executive council member of the Alabama State Bar. In 2020, he was selected for the Alabama State Bar’s Leadership Forum (Class 15).
His academic achievements began with matriculation at Alabama A & M University, where he majored in secondary education. From there, he went on to earn his Juris Doctorate from Samford University’s Cumberland School of Law. Today, at age 34, he is a Principal Attorney at Beasley Allen, one of the largest Plaintiff firms in the country.
He is active in state and local bar associations throughout the state, and heavily involved in the River Region community. In 2020, he served as the President of the Alabama Lawyers Association, the oldest and largest minority bar association in the state of Alabama. Beginning in 2021, he was selected to serve as a Commissioner for the Alabama State Bar. The Board of Bar Commissioners is the governing and policy-making body of the Alabama State Bar.
His love for law, justice, peace, God, and people has uniquely positioned him to meet the moment and the needs of the present age. Over the years, his role as a minister has afforded him the opportunity to lead youth and young adults serving, alongside his wife, Dr. Tonquita K. Hampton, as the Young Adult Pastor at True Divine Baptist Church for 5 years, and as interim pastors at Clio First Missionary Baptist Church, in Clio, AL. These experiences ignited his desire to shepherd God’s people, and after much prayer, fasting, and Godly council, he accepted the call to become the senior pastor of First Baptist Church of Greater Washington Park in 2022, the second Sunday of April.
The recipient of numerous awards and commendations, Pastor Leon embodies the core principles of what it means to be a servant leader. Even still, he would say that his greatest accomplishments are his wife, Dr. Tonquitta K. Hampton, his two children, Kori and Leon, III, and the day he gave his life to Christ.
